    Rdesign: A data dictionary with relational database design capabilities in Ada

    Data Dictionary is defined to be the set of all data attributes, which describe data objects in terms of their intrinsic attributes, such as name, type, size, format and definition. It is recognized as the data base for the Information Resource Management, to facilitate understanding and communication about the relationship between systems applications and systems data usage and to help assist in achieving data independence by permitting systems applications to access data knowledge of the location or storage characteristics of the data in the system. A research and development effort to use Ada has produced a data dictionary with data base design capabilities. This project supports data specification and analysis and offers a choice of the relational, network, and hierarchical model for logical data based design. It provides a highly integrated set of analysis and design transformation tools which range from templates for data element definition, spreadsheet for defining functional dependencies, normalization, to logical design generator

    Integro-differential diffusion equation for continuous time random walk

    In this paper we present an integro-differential diffusion equation for continuous time random walk that is valid for a generic waiting time probability density function. Using this equation we also study diffusion behaviors for a couple of specific waiting time probability density functions such as exponential, and a combination of power law and generalized Mittag-Leffler function. We show that for the case of the exponential waiting time probability density function a normal diffusion is generated and the probability density function is Gaussian distribution. In the case of the combination of a power-law and generalized Mittag-Leffler waiting probability density function we obtain the subdiffusive behavior for all the time regions from small to large times, and probability density function is non-Gaussian distribution.Comment: 12 page

    Structure formation in electromagnetically driven granular media

    We report structure formation in submonolayers of magnetic microparticles subjected to periodic electrostatic and magnetic excitations. Depending on the excitation parameters, we observe the formation of a rich variety of structures: clusters, rings, chains, and networks. The growth dynamics and shapes of the structures are strongly dependent on the amplitude and frequency of the external magnetic field. We find that for pure ac magnetic driving at low densities of particles, the low-frequency magnetic excitation favors clusters while high frequency excitation favors chains and net-like structures. An abrupt phase transition from chains to a network phase was observed for a high density of particles.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

    Breaking an image encryption algorithm based on chaos

    Recently, a chaos-based image encryption algorithm called MCKBA (Modified Chaotic-Key Based Algorithm) was proposed. This paper analyzes the security of MCKBA and finds that it can be broken with a differential attack, which requires only four chosen plain-images. Performance of the attack is verified by experimental results. In addition, some defects of MCKBA, including insensitivity with respect to changes of plain-image/secret key, are reported.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Mainstreaming zero carbon : lessons for built-environment education and training

    Education and training are identified as a key means of reducing carbon emissions from buildings to help address the climate emergency. Institutional, industry and organisational responses are shown to be failing in this regard. This editorial introduces the themes and individual papers in the special issue and then explores the current state of the art through pedagogy, theory, training, policy, practice and standards. These areas are interrogated through three fundamental questions. How can education and training be rapidly changed to ensure the creation of zero-carbon built environments? How can this transition be implemented successfully? What positive examples and models can be drawn upon or adapted? In proposing an agenda for change, a new approach to education is set out which combines learning outcomes with new standards and personal values within a continual questioning and holding to account of all stakeholders involved through evidenced outcomes. This draws on evidence from the special issue and Capability Theory which allies competency with personhood to create capability through agency. The process to make this change requires: (1) government intervention, to ensure that the lowest common denominator is zero-carbon best practice within a negotiated, holistic approach to developing the built environment sustainably; (2) new ethical, interdisciplinary and collective educational working practices underpinned by new pedagogical theory and accreditation processes; and (3) rapid auditing and upskilling in climate literacy to bring pressure to bear on governments and institutions to carry out reforms
